31 Tibetan wisdom

What do we seek out of life? Health, peace, money, love? The wisdom of Tibetan monks offers possible answers: We seek happiness in ourselves so that we can experience it with others.

Tibetan Buddhism developed in the Himalayas, from where it spread and became a major influence in northern India, Nepal and Bhutan. Tibetan sages have given several pieces of advice on how we can live a happier and fuller life. Here are some of them:

1.  Speak slowly, think fast.

2.  Don’t judge people by their family background.

3.  When you say “I love you,” say it honestly, from your heart, not for the sake of it.

4.  When you say “I’m sorry,” say it while looking the listener in the eye. You need to feel sorry for your heart.

5.  Never laugh at other people’s dreams or discourage them from pursuing them.

6.  Give people more than they expect, and give it with joy.

7.  Always keep in mind your favorite poem or idea that tells you everything.

8.  Don’t believe everything you hear. And don’t waste everything you have, and sleep like there’s no tomorrow.

9.  The greatest love and the greatest achievements are always associated with great risk.

10.  When you lose, try to learn from it.

11.  Respect yourself, respect others, and take responsibility for all your actions.

12.  Don’t let a small dispute hurt a deep friendship.

13.  When you make a mistake, don’t try to cover it up. Instead, face it and try to find a quick solution.

14.  Spend at least a few minutes each day alone and reflect on your actions.

15.  You should be open to change, but never abandon your values.

16.  Sometimes silence is the best answer.

17.  Read more books.

18.  Trust men, but always lock your door.

19.  Even if you and your loved one have a disagreement, don’t Remind of the Past.

20.  Read people between the lines.

21.  Share everything with your children, especially your information. Only in this way can you achieve something immortal.

22.  Be kind to the country. Every day it gives you everything you need.

23.  Never interrupt others when they praise.

24.  Do not interfere in the affairs of others or give advice in vain.

25.  Don’t trust those who kiss without closing their eyes.

26.  Visit a place you have never visited, at least once a year.

27.  If you earn more than you need, use some of your resources to help others.

28.  Remember that not all wishes can come true.

29.  Respect your parents. They’ve been through where you haven’t been yet.

30.  Evaluate your success based on what you had to sacrifice to achieve it.

31.  Your “I” is the last stop on your journey. In other words, you can find complete self-knowledge of your own innermost being.

Gabriel Garcia Marquez has said that “wisdom comes too late for us…”  I think it comes early in our lives, but we don’t know how we can connect with it. We spend half of our lives trying to find answers to everything and trying to get everything we want.

But if we put this advice into practice and let our actions be guided by these values, we can achieve inner peace that will make our lives much easier. We live in a world where there is no room for spirituality and self-development. Therefore, it is very important to study. Self-examination is difficult but it is worth the effort.
