How Do I Know I’m Making The Right Decision?

How do I know I'm making the right decision?

Susy Welch, editor-in-chief of Harvard Business Review , has developed the technology to make good decisions. This technique is based on the fact that the one at the decision keeps in mind the immediate, short and long term. Welch suggests that we go through the 10/10/10 rule before making a decision. So we should ask ourselves, will I be feeling bad for this in 10 minutes? What about in 10 months? Or do I remember this tone of remorse even 10 years from now?

Each of us makes decisions every day, be they for fun or demands. If you look at the past as well as things that bothered you until recently, you may find that  even “bad” decisions can have good consequences. And a “good” decision can equally bring unexpected results when it comes.

Thus, one should not be too obsessed with which of the decisions is right. Instead, it is a good idea to analyze any possibilities and / or sanctions that may result from the decision. If it is too preoccupied with which of the decisions is correct, there is a prisoner of the presumption that he will be rewarded in some way for one decision and punished for another. And if you know that the real world doesn’t work that way, then why force yourself to face such a contradiction?

Don’t be obsessed with two extremes: right and wrong decisions

In order to make a decision, you need to keep in mind that in any case, you will at least keep the lessons that the decision-making process will give you. In addition, you will get all the lessons that that actual decision you will make will provide. On the other hand, however, whether the choice you make is the best or the worst possible depends very often on the degree of dedication you have developed towards it.

When the decision-making task is at hand, your intuition and feelings about the situation will strongly affect you. Even if they don’t influence the decision itself, they will at least affect how you feel after the decision is made. With numerous options ahead, it’s only natural to feel insecure about what’s right and what’s wrong. The only thing you can do with this in mind is to let time pass, watch what happens and correct your decision if necessary.

Many decisions offer a hidden or disguised option: to do absolutely nothing. It is hidden because some people think that choosing this option is the same thing as not making a decision. However, nothing could be further from the truth. The decision not to do anything is also a valid and acceptable decision. This decision is an option that is not in itself a bad one. It’s often a thoughtful and wise decision that allows even new options to emerge – even ones you like more.

However, in many other situations, we choose not to do anything because it results in the least amount of contradiction. Or because it is a choice that requires the least effort or a choice that eliminates the need to take responsibility for its own consequences. In these three cases, the choice not to do anything is usually not the best option. It may provide relief in the short term, but is likely to cause mere anxiety in the longer term.

Make the most of every single experience

A good way to crunch everything possible out of every experience is to learn not to condemn or punish yourself when you think you have made a mistake. Mistakes require correction or resolution, but not punishment. There is no important or complicated decision that does not involve sacrifice or renunciation.

Seizing opportunities provides the certainty of creating them yourself as you go through difficult times, and no opportunity arises on your own. On the other hand, however , it is more important to know how to create an opportunity and to have the will and intelligence to move when a train refuses to continue its journey from a station.

Also, the worst thing you can do when making a decision is not to make a mistake. The company justifies your mistake instead of taking advantage of it, is a warning against similar situations. In order to make decisions that we will not regret later, it is important to be prepared. The ability to know to wait is even more important. But seizing the right moment is the real solution to unlocking the secrets of life.

When a story repeats itself, it is not necessarily due to a decision made, but to the fact that lessons have not been learned from previous experiences. The good thing about decisions is that the trains of life pass by constantly. You might have missed a train that would have taken you to an absolutely incredibly wonderful place. But you can never know what other trains are just arriving and restoring your hopes.
