“Mother”: A beautiful short film about family collaboration

At the same time as we fight for equality, we assume that women fulfill the roles of mother and housekeeper. It is time to question this assumption.

The snippet we present today serves as a perfect example of this.

Mom, a beautiful tribute

Mother  is the original name of this beautiful animated short film. It was done in 2015 by a group of Canadian students called “Kokorosh Study”. In five minutes, they wonderfully describe the challenge that mothers have to face every day: the ability to do everything.

Being able to do everything and be a spiritual center in the family is a duty that for the most part lies on the shoulders of the mother. It’s not right that they’re “supposed to do everything” and that’s very exhausting.

It seems that many people around the world can agree with this. The clip was nominated for the Annie Awards 2016 in the  category of best student film. Let’s look at it and think about it…

We should value mothers for caring for us and loving us. We should not base their value on their ability to do everything perfectly.

This wonderful short film supports  family collaboration and the idea that we can all share the responsibilities that mothers have traditionally borne. This is useful at many different levels and of course there is no better way to ultimately achieve equality.

Because of development, it is essential that children work together

It is important that children work together on household chores. Each member should have responsibilities depending on their age and abilities. From a very young age, children can start collecting their toys, covering and cleaning the table, collecting clothes, making their beds, etc.

We often have the absolute and erroneous notion that certain responsibilities should not be required in childhood. In fact, the habits we form in childhood are reflected in how we behave as adults. Having roles and responsibilities also encourages the child’s self-esteem and self-esteem  and causes the child to develop emotional skills that help them deal with the future better.

It is important that their responsibility does not come from the idea of “helping mom” because what we really want to eliminate is this idea that mom has a responsibility to do everything just because of doing it.

Working together at home is the only way to support the mental well-being of every family member, from mother and father to children.
