Phubbaus: How Phones Destroy Relationships

Phubbaus: how phones destroy relationships

Technology doesn’t stop surprising us. Every year there are endless new phones, computers, tablets, and everyone is more modern in some way. The same thing happens with different programs that allow us to communicate in many different ways.

However, it is ironic how something that connects us to people far away at the same time pushes us away from people close to us. “Phubbaus” is here to stay. The first cell phones were a great revolutionary thing. Everyone was talking about how easy it was to start a conversation with someone who lives hundreds of miles away. When this great new thing appeared to the world, it meant creating new, smaller, and lighter designs.

What started as a novelty is slowly becoming an addiction, and this addiction is called “phubbaus.” Now, people are queuing for hours in front of shops to buy the latest phone models, the most important thing for teenagers is to be liked on social media, and new alarming disruptions are popping up all the time.

What is phubbaus?

The word “phubbaus” comes from Australia when a few years ago it was invented to combine the words “phone” (phone) and “snubbing” (not to be noticed). We could define the word “phubbaus” as  ignoring or underestimating a person or environment, as we prefer to focus on a mobile device.

Addiction to some of these things causes  it to detach people from physical reality. Instead, they prefer to focus on virtual reality. This is a really common problem nowadays, and also really controversial.

couple with their own phones

Loyal defenders of the new technology argue that phubbaus is just a side effect. They say it’s the price we pay for being able to connect with the rest of the world at a low price, in real time.

But on the other hand, slanderers, on the other hand, are critical of the whole thing. According to them, this obsession with society, especially the younger population, could change their entire world.

This controversy is not just about vision problems, back and neck pain, and headaches. In addition, there are all sorts of accidents and collisions on the road, as people no longer pay so much attention to the road. And the obsession with gaining acceptance and fame on social media adds to your own physical, psychological and social problems.

And on top of all that, focusing on our phones instead of our relationships, friends, or families means a  pure lack of respect. It can lead to serious problems.

Phubbaus-related diseases

There are various interferences associated with this new technology. Phubbaus may be one of the best known, but there are also much more serious, unusual disorders. But in general, we can treat some of these disorders with the help of a trained professional. But first, we ourselves need to realize that we have a problem.

FOMO ( fear of missing out )

We need to be constantly in touch with social media for fear that we will miss out on something. Being obsessed with constantly on Facebook or other social media is unhealthy. That person constantly checks their notifications and entries.

He is unable to leave his home without taking his phone with him. He even has to refuse certain events or the hotel if there is no wifi there.

Nomophobia

Nomophobia means extreme panic when a person does not have a phone. This can happen when his phone is not working or someone has stolen it. This causes real anxiety or a panic attack. These things have a big impact on people.

Just like the people who suffer from FOMO, the biggest concern of those who suffer from  this panic is that they will be left with something in between if they don’t have a phone. They don’t really care at all how much a phone repair or a new phone costs – it has to be got, paid for what it cost.

Online hypochondria

Online hypochondria is one of the most common disorders. The Internet is a great source of information, but we must remember that it is not a doctor. Several people like to look for their symptoms online. And then they define for themselves an illness that they don’t actually have.

stress and headaches

This belief that any forum or website is trustworthy makes people turn into mental illness. They think they have any disease. And this is dangerous if they choose to treat themselves accordingly.

Ghosting syndrome

There is another form of this syndrome where people think they hear their phone ringing. They feel non-existent vibration due to their extreme obsession with their phone. Even if they haven’t even turned on the phone, they still say they confidently feel the vibration of the phone.

Google phenomenon

This is perhaps the least known phenomenon, but one of the most significant in the long run. Our brains get so used to searching for information on the internet that they stop receiving information when we learn in the usual way.

In the long run, it can create an inability to store information. And if this happens, it will have a really negative effect on our memory in general.

New technologies can help us in many different ways, but they can also cause problems. If we pay more attention to the evidence than to what is happening around us, the consequences can be quite catastrophic.

Thinking about our true relationships and our own health is far more important than the internet. This is something we should always keep in mind.
