Wasting Time Is As Important As Using It
Waste of time is a relative concept that should be considered from another perspective. For example, it can be a valuable key to well-being. Let’s think about this. We live in a society where we are assured that time is money and we need to make the most of every second of our lives.
This will no doubt lead to the already familiar and repetitive maze of stress and anxiety that results from forgetting oneself. So time is not money, gold or silver. Time is much more valuable because time is life.
Time management
The ability to manage time and allow oneself to sometimes do absolutely nothing gives peace of mind. It is often difficult for us to do this because we have spent so many hours of our lives on the “productivity setting”. Our minds have learned to interpret lying on the couch and resting to waste time.
There are “masters” of time management, such as Dr. Alex Soojung-Kim Pang, known for his work as a consultant in Silicon Valley. He explains in his book “ Rest: Why You Get More Done When You Work Less ” that it is time for us to change our way of life. We need to understand that “wasting” time is worthwhile because it allows us to recharge our batteries and find peace of mind.
Wasting time is about living
Max Weber, a well-known philosopher, economist and sociologist of the 20th century, believes that with the Industrial Revolution, people began to approach their work with an almost religious belief. Working was no longer just a way to earn a living to survive it was and still is a way of life.
Many believe that work brings dignity to humanity. Activity is equal to productivity. While this is partly true, most of the time it goes to extremes so that some people are unable to relax at all.
Keeping inaction as a waste of time leads to mental exhaustion. An interesting study by Dr. Leonard Reinecken of the University of Germany shows that many people value themselves less when they watch television for a while because they feel guilty about their inaction and consider it a waste of time.
Don’t be like a white rabbit
“Woe to me about polos! Oh my poles! Now it is true that I will be late when I am late! ” I saw the white rabbit in the story of Lisa’s Adventures in Wonderland. This character symbolizes the wildly busy lives of many people. Admit it, we always have something to do and we watch the clock in our distress. We are constantly feeding on this kind of behavior that plunges anxiety and mental exhaustion into the abyss.
The culture of being productive and striving for perfection causes us to feel guilty even when we take some time to rest. Sometimes our minds torture us with thoughts of things we supposedly should be doing.
Give yourself time
Sometimes wasting time doesn’t really take anything from us on the contrary. It’s time to stop believing that we need to be productive every second. Now is the ideal time to allow yourself to be like a child again; lets get bored to finally feel free, relaxed, and even playful.
It would be good for us not to do anything for several hours a day, as this will arouse creativity and reflection in us. In fact, we need to understand that more work does not necessarily mean that we can do more. We usually get a lot more done by working a few hours less, and our quality of life also improves.
You should give yourself this valuable gift. Just give yourself time and opportunity to be, breathe and enjoy life to the fullest with all your senses.
